    Health Promotion Services

    THO contracts with Otara Health Inc to provide a range of Health Promotion Services. The Health Promotion team is headed by a Health Promotion Manager and includes two health promoters responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion services.

    THO’s health promotion programmes are developed to reflect national and local health priority objectives and to respond to the needs of the THO population and community.

    There are three key foundations:

    • The Treaty of Waitangi principles of partnership, participation and protection which are central to improving Maori health
    • The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (WHO, 1986) which provides a framework for planning and interventions that takes a broad and integrated approach to improving health outcomes, and the
    • Cultural models of health and wellbeing which recognise and respond to the cultural, social, spiritual and economic aspects of individuals, families / whanau and communities.
