Pacific Health
MISSION
To support the well being of Pacific people within the Otara area through the delivery of health initiatives that work alongside and build the capacity of Pacific people to lead the way.
In line with this, the Pacific Health plan for Total Healthcare Otara will incorporate the following principles:
- Dignity and sacredness of life are integral to the delivery of health and disability services
- Active participation of Pacific peoples in all levels of health and disability services is encouraged and supported
- Successful Pacific services recognize the integral roles of Pacific leadership and Pacific communities; and
- Pacific peoples are entitled to excellent health and disability services that are coordinated, culturally competent and clinically sound
VISION
Pacific people and communities within the Otara area will have increased levels of well being and health through increased levels of physical activity along with healthier eating.
The Counties Manukau Pacific Health and Disability Plan, Tupu Ola Moui, highlights the need for approaches to working with Pacific communities to be done so in a coordinated and cohesive manner and at all levels. Key to this is the need to focus efforts within the following settings, Churches, family and other ethnic specific cultural settings.
The approach that will benefit Pacific people will be one that allows organizations to acknowledge their specific role with regards to pacific communities. Specifically, ensuring that the strengths of these groups are utilized and where there are areas needing further reinforcement, collaboration can ensure support is given to strengthen these areas.
